While I was trying to upgrade the host from ESXi 5.1 to ESXi 5.5 version, received this error message. Usually this error pops up when required disk space or memory not available on the ESXi host. However, the host that I’m trying to upgrade has adequate resources.

Steps to fix the ramdisk error while upgrading from ESXi 5.1 to 5.5

I re verified and found that, ‘Lockdown Mode’ is enabled

Under Configuration Tab, in the left pane ‘Security Profile’

disable the Lockdown Mode option

Now go to, Update Manager tab and click on ‘Remediate’ button again. This would take about 20 mins to re scan the host for upgrades.
