Windows stopped at ‘Applying Computer Settings’ after installing Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows

Today we tried installing / upgrading the Veritas Storage Foundation aka Storage Foundation for Windows version upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1, however after upgradation of Storage Foundation it is stopped or hanged much of time at ‘Applying Computer Settings’ screen, rebooted couple of times however the issues remains same.

Suspected could be an issue with Vertias Storage Foundation services that is creating some issue that is causing the server OS going into trying to start the services.

Note: This solution is applicable for all the Windows Operating System versions and editions (Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 & 2012 as well)

Solution:

1. Boot into Safe Mode

2. Disable the following services related to the VSF:
a. Veritas Enterprise Administrator
b. Veritas Storage Agent
c. Veritas GridNode
d. VxInstaller (this service may not available all the time, if present only)

after disabling the above said services, reboot the server and boot into NORMAL mode.
